Symptoms
which are an indication of possible psychiatric disorders, but not often
recognized as such, are listed below.These symptoms especially apply if they
seem to be without cause from a life stress and if they are persistent.
- Recurrent or consistent feelings of sadness
- Feelings of fear or impending doom
- Sudden episodes of being unable to get your breath
and/or chest pain, rapid or irregular heart beats
- Feeling that your familiar surroundings are unreal
- Inability to feel pleasure from usually pleasurable
things
- Feelings of "butterflies" in your stomach.
- Inability to sleep or the need to sleep too much
- Loss of appetite or the need to eat too often
- Recurrent nightmares.
- Too many thoughts going through your mind at once.
- Difficulty organizing your thoughts.
- Consistent feelings of guilt.
- Feeling hopeless and helpless.
- Thoughts that life isn't worth the trouble.
- Rapid mood swings.
- Periods of rapid speech and the need to keep talking
excessively.
- Consistent or recurrent feelings that there is
something seriously medically wrong with you but they just haven't found it
yet.
- Feelings of excessive anger and difficulty keeping
temper under control.

- Inability to get out of bed on a daily basis.
- Requires assistance performing daily living skills
such as shopping, meal preparation, housework, etc.
- Has difficulty maintaining prescribed program of
medications.
- There Is limited judgement in the handling of money
and personal finances.
- Generally stays socially isolated.
- Social network Is limited to agency workers.
- View of society is one of distrust and isolation.
- Mental orientation is partial or inconsistent.
- Thoughts may produce inappropriate behaviors or
decisions.
- Moods are in poor control, and may drive
inappropriate behaviors or decisions.
- Hallucinations which affect behaviors and may prevent
independent functioning.
